Urinary Incontinence

There are several reasons for women to have urinary incontinence. The two most common types of urinary incontinence are stress urinary incontinence and urge urinary incontinence.  Many women have a mix of both types.

What is Stress Urinary Incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence is an unintentional urinary leak with impact type activities such as a laugh, cough, sneeze, or exercise. It can also occur with standing up, going up stairs, or even just getting in and out of a car. It can be caused by many things; vaginal childbirth, chronic cough, strenuous activity, or just weak tissue. Often it will get worse as women transition into menopause. There are treatments for any age and it does not discriminate based on age. We offer multiple surgical and non-surgical treatment options here at Pelvic Health Specialists.

What is Urge Urinary Incontinence?

Urge urinary incontinence (UUI) occurs when there is involuntary leak with the sense of urge. This is often associated with urinary frequency and urgency. This can be caused by dietary irritants, weak pelvic floor muscles, genetic factors, pelvic floor dysfunction, pregnancy and childbirth, and the natural aging process. UUI can occur at any age as well and can even be an issue with children.  We are able to offer patients medical therapy, as well as advanced treatment options with bladder Botox, Interstim neuromodulation therapy and Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation. Some of these can even be performed in our office.

We also treat urinary retention, overflow incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections, nocturia, nocturnal enuresis and lots of other non-cancer pelvic floor and bladder issues.  Call and let us help you get back to living.
